WHO WE ARE
Founded in 1999 as Eigse Laoghaire Multi-Cultural Arts (meaning “artists sharing”) when the people seeking refuge first came to stay in Dún Laoghaire, we gave a platform for expression to the wonderful range of cultures living in our community, including people seeking refuge, members of the Travelling Community, young people, Irish speakers, the more mature, an open Mike.
Since then, we have been responsible for mixed cultural gatherings, exhibitions, performances and now two anthologies. Our next project is to collect success stories, and there are many, of how our newcomers have integrated and contributed to society since their arrival.
Our performances are held in Community Centres such as libraries, Arts Centres and clubs; we hold them in aid of local charities so that the local communities realise that the newcomers are helping them in more ways than one, contributing also to the cultural life and quality of life of each community where Éigse Laoghaire performs.
