WHO WE ARE
Making Connections is a dlr based organisation working to alleviate loneliness and isolation among people 65 years and over who wish to age independently at home. We were nominated by dlr County Council in the Pride of Place National Competition 2019 for the contribution of our volunteer team to making Dunlaoghaire Rathdown County a great place to grow old.
We promote social inclusion through our direct core services: weekly befriending programme and Cultural Connections programme which empowers older people to participate in social events in the local community. We work in partnership with health care professionals to identify people who would benefit from these services. All our volunteers are garda vetted, reference checked and trained.
In Partnership with Pavilon theatre Dunlaoghaire and dlr Arts/Hse office we will mark dlr Festival of Inclusions 2019 and “Celebrate generations” by bringing volunteers and older people together on October 16th. The event will kick off with an intergenerational get together. This will be followed by a lively upbeat musical Ladies in the Blues to be fronted live on stage by four of Ireland’s greatest female exponents of blues music
