WHO WE ARE
Southside Travellers Action Group, also known as STAG, began life as South Dublin Travellers Support Group in 1985, when a handful of Travellers and settled people came together to try to prevent the eviction of a group of Travellers camped beside the church in Foxrock. In those days, much of the work was focused on fighting evictions and supporting Traveller families.
Since then, we have grown to become a provider of accommodation support, education & training services, employment, Traveller Health-care & youth services to over 215 Traveller families resident in the Dun Laoghaire – Rathdown area.
The work of Southside Travellers is informed by the following values:
Inclusivity. Southside Travellers proactively ensure that its services and programmes are accessible to all members of the Traveller Community in Dún Laoghaire Rathdown we run programmes such as our Chill Out Zone to allow older members of the community to attend a weekly course on items such as knitting, sewing, arts and crafts etc.
Holistic Approach. Southside Travellers adopts a joined up approach to meeting the needs of Travellers in Dún Laoghaire Rathdown by ensuring cross fertilisation of work between its various programmes and services. This includes working alongside National Traveller Organizations and Government agencies. We ensure that our Community has access to health care, education, accommodation an youth programme services.
Transparency. Southside Travellers ensure transparency in how it conducts all aspects of its business. This promotes trust with all of our partners.
Partnership. Southside Travellers fully appreciate the importance of partnering with other agencies with specific responsibilities for working with Travellers in order to achieve its objectives.
