March 31st-April 7th is Organ Donor Awareness Week

The 31st of March is the first day of ORGAN DONOR AWARENESS WEEK which runs until the 7th of April. This is the most important week in the calendar of The Irish Kidney Association.

The launch took place in The Mansion House on the 27th of March where people who have received an organ and families who have had a loved one who was a donor tell their stories. Minister for Health Simon Harris was also there to speak about Organ Donation.

The organisation is made up of branches all around Ireland and ALL members are unpaid volunteers with a staff running Donor House. We support renal patients, whether on dialysis or transplanted with educational financial and counselling support . We also have a lovely house at Beaumont Hospital for family members to stay during transplant operations.

Our primary function though is to promote Organ Donation and distribute the organ donor card. Our Dublin east and Wicklow branch covers all of Dun-Laoghaire Rathdown and our volunteers will be out and about for that week collecting at Aldi Stores in Sallynoggin, Sandyford, and Nutgrove this coming Saturday the 31st and we will have collection boxes and donor cards in some Pharmacies. So our motto for the week is “ORGAN DONATION WORKS” Have You Had The Conversation?.
