COMMUNITY NEWS
1. Shankill & Ballybrack Community First Responders – Upcoming Public Training Event – April 10, 2025
For those looking to enhance their life-saving skills, our next public training event will take place on April 10, 2025, at 7:00 PM at St. Anne’s Resource Centre. This is a fantastic opportunity for community members to learn vital CPR and first aid skills under the guidance of our experienced trainers.

2. Don’t miss Dalkey Players next production! Following the success of John B Keane’s ‘Sharon’s Grave’, Dalkey Players are very excited to bring an original play by Conall Ó Beoláin, ‘On the Lower Bridge’, directed by Mallory Adams, Simon Cunningham and Ber O’ Hara. ‘On the Lower Bridge’ features a day in the life of an Irish town in 2024. Nine stories combine to form an insightful, humorous and emotional portrait of present day Ireland. Running 26th March to 29th March inclusive in the Dalkey Town Hall at 8pm. Tickets available here
3. St. Patrick’s Day Parade DLR
The parade will last for approximately one and a half hours from 11am – 12.30pm. The parade route will be along the coast road beginning at Islington Avenue, proceeding along Queen’s Road, and will end at the Marine Road junction into the Harbour, with parade participants dispersing into the Harbour area. Wednesdays 11.30am – 1.30pm (6 consecutive weeks) in the Lis Na Carrig & Aventine Gardens, Brighton Road, Foxrock, D18 X7P4. To book: [email protected]Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown Council’s Climate Action Team in collaboration with Foxrock Area Community & Enterprise CLG (FACE) have organised a free six week, six step climate action course for the over 55’s, beginning this month, March 2025. The course supports dlr’s commitment in the dlr Climate Action Plan 2024 -2029 to work in partnership with local communities in climate related programmes. The unique programme is provided by Jacinta Barrins. Jacinta is a retired United Nations Diplomat, where her work focused on the environment and climate. The first three steps of the course focus on understanding climate change, how it occurs, the challenges of changing behaviour and how to measure our carbon footprint. The second three steps focus on supporting participants in implementing ONE action based on their carbon footprint results. At step four, the participants identify ONE action they would like to work on. The gap between the fifth and sixth sessions allows participants to work with their action!
The course, which is free, is open to all persons over fifty-five years of age, as well as individuals or groups who want to learn about climate change in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. Places are limited and booking is essential.EVENTS and PARTICIPATION OPPORTUNITIES
1. Dun Laoghaire Jam Hub with Music Generation DLR (age 14-17) – Musicians, Bands, DJs, Rappers and more
This interactive, inclusive music program is designed to provide a space for young musicians from 14-17 years old to come together, write, rehearse and record with the guidance of Music Generation DLR’s experienced musician educators. Young musicians of all abilities are welcome to the Beat Cafe, Dun Laoghaire from 10am to 12pm every Saturday starting on March 29th. To register, please email: [email protected]2. Free Tours of the Impressive LÉ William Butler Yeats!
On Monday 17 March, St Patrick’s Day, the LÉ William Butler Yeats will be open to the public at Dún Laoghaire Harbour from 1pm until 4pm. Tours are free of charge, no booking required and last approximately 20 minutes. The 90m Offshore Patrol Vessel (OPV) will be docked at Carlisle Pier, Dún Laoghaire Harbour, This is a unique opportunity for visitors to explore the ship, learn about its capabilities, and gain insight into its role in defending Ireland’s interests at sea. 1. Traffic: Schools & Sports Clubs Cycle Parking – Closes 14 March 2025
Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council invites schools and sport clubs to apply for cycle parking stands. These will be delivered to the school or sports club grounds by the Council.
2. Ashlawn Park Public Consultation – Closes 19 March 2025
Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council is in the process of developing a public realm design for the cul-de-sac on which you reside. The project will involve the construction of new footpaths, planting of new trees, and roadway resurfacing. The completed project will result in a safer, greener and more modern layout from which the community can benefit.
3. Draft Kiltiernan-Glenamuck Local Area Plan – Closes 21 March 2025
The Draft Kiltiernan – Glenamuck Local Area Plan (LAP) sets out the policies and objectives to guide future development in Kiltiernan – Glenamuck.
4. Architects: Works at No. 9 George’s Place and the former Wash House, Kelly’s Avenue, Dún Laoghaire – Closes 28 March 2025

5. Planning: Residential Zoned Land Tax Draft Map 2025 (Rezoning) – Closes 1 April 2025
The Government’s Housing For All – A New Housing Plan for Ireland proposed a new tax to activate vacant land for residential purposes as a part of the Pathway to Increasing New Housing Supply. The Residential Zoned Land Tax was introduced in the Finance Act 2021. The process to identify land to which the tax applies is now underway and the tax will be payable from 2025. T
6. Planning: Proposal of Residential Development at Leopardstown Road – Closes 8 April 2025
In accordance with Part 8, Article 81 of the Planning and Development Regulations, 2001 (as amended), Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council hereby gives notice of a proposal to be carried out for Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council by way of an Agreement with Winterbrook (“the developer”). The Public are invited to make submissions in relation to a new housing development proposal in the Leopardstown Road area.
7. Draft Old Connaught Local Area Plan – Closes 17 April 2025
The Draft Old Connaught Local Area Plan (LAP) sets out the policies and objectives to guide future development in Old Connaught. The map below provides a spatial context for the boundary of the Draft LAP. The Vision for Old Connaught The Vision for Old Connaught is to support the growth of the area as a sustainable urban village with a strong sense of place and integrating both the existing and planned new communities.
8. Planning: Taking in Charge at Section of Footpath at the Entrance of One Springfield Park, Foxrock, Dublin 18 – Closes 21 April 2025
In accordance with the provisions of Section 180 of the Planning & Development Act, 2000 to initiate the procedures of Section 11 of the Roads Act, 1993 (as amended), Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council hereby gives notice of its intention to consider the making of a declaration for a section of footpath at the entrance of One Springfield Park, Foxrock, Dublin 18 to be made public.
9. Parks: Proposed Development St. Michael’s Church Square & Environs – Closes 25 April 2025
Proposed Development at St Michael’s Square & Environs PC-PKS-01-25. Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council is proposing to develop St. Michael’s Square and Environs on the junction of Marine Road and George’s Street. The Proposal includes for level access off George’s Street into a seating/ congregation space at the upper level. The placemaking project is to improve the general appearance of the locality and to assist in the regeneration of Dún Laoghaire Town.
10. Carrickmines Shanganagh Flood Relief Scheme
dlr are delighted to announce the submission of the Carrickmines Shanganagh Flood Relief Scheme for planning permission. The scheme is for the construction of defences to protect properties against flooding at key locations along the Carrickmines and Shanganagh rivers. The scheme has been submitted to An Bord Pleanála. The plans are available to view on An Bord Pleanála’s website. Public consultation runs from 27 Feb 2025 to 15 April 2025 for anyone who wishes to comment.
OTHER CONSULTATIONS
1. Public Consultation for Ireland’s next Suicide Reduction Policy – Closing date 5pm on Friday 18 April 2025
The Department of Health is seeking consultations from the public on the development of a new suicide reduction policy for Ireland. You are being asked to complete this short survey on your views and experiences. The survey is open to both individuals and organisations. Read more here.
2. Consultation on Ireland’s implementation of the Aarhus Convention and the Pollutant Release Transfer Register
The Department of Climate, Environment, Energy have just launched the public consultation on Ireland’s implementation of the Aarhus Convention and the Pollutant Release Transfer Register (PRTR) Protocol available here. Comments on the draft document should be submitted by email or received by post no later than 5.30pm on 7th April 2025. Read more here.

1. Dublin Rural Leader Programme seeking proposals for funding from Glencullen, Tibradden & Shankill-Rathmichael areas – dublinruralleader.ie
- Entrepreneurship Impact Fund – Strand 3: Minority Entrepreneurship Fund – focus on growing & scaling early/mid-stage social enterprises led by ethnic minorities, migrants & refugees: Closing Date: 21 March ’25
- Brighter Futures Fund – supporting orgs. in addressing mental health & wellbeing of marginalised communities: Closing Date: 24 March 2025
- Connected Communities: promote equity & inclusion, encourage media literacy, community awareness initiatives & empower communities to develop meaningful connections across diverse groups: Closing date: 11 April ‘25
3. Grants to help turn vacant traditional houses into new homes – Applications must be made by the deadline of 2 May 2025
Grants of up to €5,000 available to cover expert conservation advice. Scheme aimed at those availing or considering the Vacant Property Refurbishment Grant. Part of the Historic Structures Fund , this scheme will cover up to 67% of the costs (subject to a maximum grant of €5,000) of having a conservation expert with appropriate expertise visit a traditional building, conduct a survey, and compile tailored conservation advice. This includes a report outlining the condition of the building and identifying repairs and improvements that would restore it to use while enhancing its character, energy efficiency, integrity, and amenity.
