Foxrock / Cabinteely Community Games

In 2018, Foxrock / Cabinteely Community Games offered local children the opportunity to participate in the biggest number of Community Games events to date – chess, art, model making, music, table quiz, athletics, swimming, gaelic football and rounders.

They had some fantastic results! The U13 and U16 chess teams under manager Fergal O’Halloran both won silver medals in the Dublin finals.  Oisin Murphy and Hugo Maguire represented Dublin in the model making and handwriting National Finals in Limerick in May. Also representing Dublin at the National Finals were swimmers Hannah Poynton, Alex Browne and Aine O’Neill. The U13 girls relay team narrowly missed out on a place in the National Finals.

The local athletics event was a fun filled … and competitive afternoon the medals were presented by Dr. Ronnie Delany.

At the Dublin finals in Santry in June the U13 mixed relay ran a super race to take 4th place. Hayley Williamson (U8) also won a bronze medal.

2018 is the first year they entered a gaelic and rounders teams in the Community Games both teams have progressed to the Leinster finals on July 14th.

What a great run for the Foxrock Cabinteely U13 girls, Paul Tonge and his team of mentors Orla, Faye, Gary, Tom, Colin and Gwen.

After winning the u14 Dublin community games competition, they went on to represent Dublin in the Leinster community games finals in Trim last weekend.  In the semi finals the girls had a good win over the Carlow champions Bennekerry-Tinryland.

After a good start there was a long wait in the blistering sun for the final. In the final against the champions from Westmeath they started well with an early goal but the girls could not keep up the form they showed in the first game and came out second best to the very strong Gainstown-Miltownpass who were coming off the back of their All Ireland Feile win.  This was a great achievement and experience for such a young bunch of girls in their first ever community games.

A great day was had by all and a big thank you to Jane for the first aid, all the parents and supporters who made the trip to Trim.

Also playing in the Leinster finals on July 14th are the U13 girls rounders team under manager Triona Kelly – a former community games rounders player herself!

The girls U13 rounders also played in the Leinster final  against Wexford. The experienced Wexford team who won the National Finals last year, proved too strong for this young team who were playing their first competitive game. The girls learnt a lot from the match and had great fun. A big thank you to team manager Triona Kelly for all her hard work over the past few weeks!
