EirGrid is planning a major, multi-year upgrade of the Dublin electricity grid called Powering Up Dublin. This project will help facilitate the Government’s renewable energy targets and meet growing demand in the city and county.
EirGrid is installing up to 50km of underground cables across the city. Some cables will replace existing cables and some will be new. The company will also upgrade some electricity substations and build new substations to support Dublin’s electricity network. EirGrid does not have draft cable routes or confirmation on what substation works are required yet, therefore, EirGrid wishes to work with local communities and stakeholders at all stages of the projects.
EirGrid is hosting an information event for local communities and stakeholder groups on Tuesday 27 September. The event will provide further information on the Community Forum it is creating for the duration of the Powering Up Dublin project. The aim of the Community Forum is to represent the voices of local communities across the Greater Dublin Area. It will create an opportunity for dialogue between the project team to ensure local communities thoughts, considerations and input is taken on board at all stages of the project.
The Role of the Forum:
- To represent the views of local communities in relation to the project.
- Consider the project and provide guidance on local needs and priorities.
- To assist in enabling the resolution of local issues resulting from the project in a timely manner.
- To provide feedback to the project team.
- To facilitate a ‘local voice’ and communicate information to a wider group of regional and local stakeholders.
